You want to know the secret of youth? By consuming tomatoes, your skin will remain intact.

The research team from the British Society for Investigative Dermatology is a mix of University of Manchester and Newcastle found that eating five tablespoons of tomato sauce per day can help improve skin and protect it from the effects of ultraviolet light. The result turns out, tomatoes potent prevent premature aging, even in patients with cancer.

The researchers found levels of antioxidants in tomatoes called lycopene. This is the role of antioxidant benefit for skin. Meanwhile, an important substance in tomatoes will reach the optimal concentration when properly cooked. In addition, these antioxidants also reduce the risk of prostate cancer.

The researchers concluded that antioxidants in the tomato skin also provides protection from the negative effects of sunlight. Initially, the researchers provide approximately 55 grams of standard tomato sauce to the 10 respondents. The tomato sauce was a lot of original content of tomato. In addition, respondents also were given 10 grams of olive oil per day.
For other trials, they were given only olive oil. After a three-month trial, the skin of respondents who ate tomato sauce shows 33% more protected from sunburn. This is equivalent to the efficacy of sun cream and prokolagen high level. Prokolagen is a molecule which gives skin nutrition and keep it tight. Trials are also using ultraviolet light.

"Diet can increase the use of tomato prokolagen levels in the skin significantly. This can increase the level of improvement that has undergone re-skin aging," said Lead researcher Professor Lesley Rhodes an expert in dermatology at the University of Manchester. According to him, the level of dose given to the respondent tomatoes are not too big. Although a small quantity, it can provide significant benefits.

Therefore, he considered the tomatoes are potential additional nutrients which are very helpful. Not just an alternative way other than using anti-sun cream. However, this is still short so early research and the research team continued research is necessary in order to get a scientific analysis of the benefits of lycopene for the skin. The research team also did not recommend to people that leave the use of anti-sun cream and replace it with tomatoes.
