Did you know that laboratory examinations on the students at 10 elementary schools in Jakarta, about 35% children are anemic. One reason it is a worm infection.

Some types of worms that often infect humans, especially children, namely Ascaris lumbricoides (roundworm), Trichuris trichiura (whip worm), and Necator americanus (hookworm). Most large-sized roundworms by 30 to 40 cm long, whip worms 3 to 4 cm, and hookworm 1hingga 2 cm.

Worm infection in the body are very linked with sanitation and hygiene. Worm infections can come from:


1. Foods (such as raw vegetables) contaminated with feces and not be washed clean so that left the worm eggs. For example the raw fresh vegetables.
2. Contaminated feces and drink is not perfect in the process of warming up (not until 100o C).
3. Bad habits of children are often mengemut thumb (which may be dirty and contaminated by worm eggs).
4. Physically, the condition of children who suffer from intestinal worms are no different from healthy children. Especially in urban areas, worm infections are generally mild, so not only shows the pathetic physical condition such as in rural areas. In severe cases, the child will look very skinny but his belly bulge (because it contains a worm), in addition to appetite is also very down and always looked lethargic.
5. The ability of worms in the intestine that secrete a specific toxin suspected of causing the child to be declining appetite. It may affect the concentration of children to learn or think.

Here are some tips to keep children from helminth infections:

1. Embed this healthy lifestyles in children.
2. Cleanliness is a powerful weapon against the worm. All foodstuffs, particularly vegetables, should be washed with clean water (water flow) and processed properly.
3. Perform regular stool examination in the laboratory, especially if your child is suspected of suffering from intestinal worms.
4. Advised to take medication regularly worm with the appropriate dose.
